NileGuide Expert tip:
The chill out bar is a great place to retreat from the bustling energy of the main bar
As debauched as you might expect from a club located in a former opium refinery, Vasco's is definitely one of the liveliest expat hangouts in town. Regularly crammed with a mixture of teachers, backpackers and long-term western residents, the bar offers everything from alternative band nights to good old-fashioned mainstream fun. Not only is it an enjoyable venue for a night on the tiles, the al fresco terrace and deep-red hued upstairs dining area makes it a classy bet for some food or a few cocktails. Most of all, however, Vasco's is party central. The drink menu is extensive and is fairly reasonably priced while the spacious dancefloor offers plenty of room in which to throw some interesting shapes. Local residents usually provide the dancing fodder but notable guest DJs have been known to show up too.
