Description:

This place bills itself as "Taiwanese," but don't be fooled. 8 Happiness is actually a yum cha restaurant, a new façade for the ever-popular Maxim's Chinese Restaurants chain, only this place also serves some Taiwanese-esque fare together with the same décor, table arrangement, service, clientele and Cantonese dishes as a normal Maxim's.

The steamed taro square cake, a southern Taiwanese dim sum, is surprisingly flavorful and aromatic despite its muddy dark appearance; the dried fish roe with red pepper, garlic and turnip mesh (a good beer snack) was the first Hong Kong has ever seen outside of Taiwan; and the grilled mackerel with wasabi dip (a Taiwanese take on the Japanese staple) was juicy and packed an interesting twist with the wasabi.

They also have signature dishes such as the bucket chicken, stir fry chinese cabbage, salt and pepper shrimp, grilled mackerel and pepper biscuits.
