Not only for its sheer quantity of pubs, clubs and music venues that will thrill any taste, Leeds is well respecting for being the host of some of the biggest club nights of the country, and for attracting some of the top performers and internationally renowned djs around today.

For live music, head to the Cockpit; housing three stages that both local and international bands can be found performing, from Amy Whinehouse to the Kaiser Chiefs. Otherwise, the Faversham is a well reputed live music venue that has also seen a wide range of big names, and the venue doubles up as a nightclub after an acoustic show. For more local feel, head down to trendy Call Land where you will find the Oporto, one of the oldest and coolest bars in town, being insanely popular with local musicians and students alike. More upscale drinks can be found in the area of Headingley and Hyde Park, in the way of modern bars and brasseries, full of chic and trendy northern beauties. For true sophistication try the Oracle; a sleek bar with an outdoor Moet terrace which overlooks the river.

Being home to three different universities, Leeds has the highest student population in England, which makes for some very boozy and wild partying to be had. For those visitors really looking to get involved with the vibe of studentsville, and only if willing to put your drinking stamina to the test, take part in the ‘Otley Run’- the famous Leeds pub crawl. The route follows the Otley Road, and drinkers are obliged to down a beverage in about 20 different drinking holes along the way. If feeling really in the spirit, join in with the bar crawlers dressed up in outrageous costumes and inventively themed fancy dress.

However, make sure that your party spirit does not peak too early as bar hopping is only the rudimentary prelude to the best part of the night: clubbing. Leeds is a true clubbing Mecca and inundated with wild and wacky club nights. The HiFi Club is the three-time winner of the Leeds Best Nightclub as well as Best Live Music Venue, and is a club that prides itself on quality music, ranging from soul to funk to jazz and hip hop, one of the favorite. For a hardcore clubbing scene, try Mission, which will definitely keep you dancing until dawn to all the new sounds and beats in town.
