Celestún's most luxurious accommodations are found six miles north of the village at Hotel Eco Paraíso Xixim. Founded and lovingly nurtured by Verena Gerber (a 2010 Planeta.com Colibri Ecolodge Award winner), the hotel is the paradise its name implies, built and operated following sound ecological principles. This does not mean Eco Paraíso lacks for creature comforts: it is a full-service resort with a restaurant, bar, wellness center, and private accommodations in 15 bungalows, each featuring two queen-size beds. These thatched-roof palapas have ceiling fans but no air conditioning. Morning coffee is delivered daily to your private terrace, where you can recline in a hammock and gaze at the 3-mile long pristine and deserted beach. If you grow bored with relaxing, you can play volleyball, paddle a kayak or bike to the Holul salt flats; the reception staff will gladly arrange a boat ride through the world-famous Ría Celestún Biosphere Reserve.
