Description:

Because chocolate originated in ancient America and was revered by the Mayans it should come as no surprise that you can find delicious examples in the Yucatan. However, the fine organic chocolates at Ki'Xocolatl in Merida come from an unexpected source: the hands of Belgian master chocolatier Mathieu Brees. His chocolates are renowned throughout the world of chocolate aficionados and Ki'Xocolatl is Brees' tiny shop in Merida's Centro Historico. He and his Yucatecan staff roast and grind the beans to create unusual candy bars, with dark chocolate with chile or pink peppercorns among them. Children devour the white or dark chocolate pieces shaped like ears of corn. Behind the shop is a peaceful courtyard where you can sit and sip specially blended hot and cold coffee drinks. Brees creates delicate individual chocolates for his L'Amandine brand and has designed custom flavors for Hotel Rosas & Xocolate on Paseo de Montejo.
