NileGuide Expert tip:

Each of the big beer halls have large Fasching parties. Have a look at their websites to choose a good celebration to attend!

Description:

Munich's version of Carnival or Mardi Gras is called Fasching.  Following similar traditions in Germany, this is a time where the entire city celebrates in costumes reminiscent of Halloween in other parts of the world.  The party comes to a peak on Shrove Tuesday (Fat Tuesday...) with the dance of market women at the Viktualienmarkt.  The following day women line up to wash their purse in the fish fountain on Marienplatz.

The main parties and events are on the weekend before shrove tuesday and on the day itself and the actual parties mainly take place indoors and Fasching in Munich is held at a particularly cold time of the year.
