Nature Attractions in Rome

Rome is all about being outside, whether people-watching under umbrellas in a piazza or bicycling down the Via Appia Antica. Being outside is top priority in a city choc=a-bloc with pedicured parks, bike paths, tennis clubs and mountain climbing. And, of course, just outside the city there's even more activities to discover from beaches to mountains, and from olive groves to catacombs. Whether taking advantage of public transportation and heading out to Tivoli for Villa d'Este and Villa Adriana or Ostia Antica, getting outside is a must. The most beautiful Roman villas and tombs (Appia Antica) are just outside the city. Most tourists focus on the center, so get off the beaten path, breathe some clean air and walk around. Rome also has several large parks, known as "villa"- like Villa Borghese, Villa Pamphilj and Villa Celimontana. Filled with things to do from puppet theatres to biking and rollerblading, most Romans tend to hang out for afternoon picnic and a suntan.
