On the Map: Oxpemul Archeological Zone is located at Latitude 18.31975 N, Longitude 89.778389 W in the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve.How To Get There: From Highway 186, enter the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve. Drive approximately 30 minutes past the visitors center toward the Calakmul Archeological Zone and look for the Oxpemul sign at KM 20. Turn left on this road and drive 30-60 minutes, depending on the weather and the condition of the road.
Need to Know: High clearance 4WD needed. Machetes, axe, or chainsaw might be necessary to remove fallen trees on this road.
Hours of Operation: Open to the public daily, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. No prior permission needed. Give the two caretakers 100 pesos each. They will lead you from the road to the hilltop site and take you to the 18 stelae on display.
