Ocean City Travel Guide

Ocean City, or OC for short, is the American version of what a seaside holiday is all about. That means 10 miles of free and clean beaches, sport fishing, a round of golf or mini golf, outlet shopping and seafood dining featuring steamed crabs. Here you can forget about calorie counting as you indulge in the mouthwatering cuisine, swim, party at the beach, sunbathe, shop and enjoy the breathtaking sunsets.

Sights

OC's historic Boardwalk is the first attraction that catches your eye when you arrive in town. A little under three miles, the strip is packed with beachfront attractions, shops and restaurants and is a pleasant, although a bit crowded, place to explore. Two amusement parks--Trimpers Rides and Jolly Roger at the Pier--make for good family fun. Ripley's Believe It or Not is also on the Boardwalk and is definitely a trip for the wild and the strange exhibits. Wheels of Yesterday is a classic car museum on the Ocean Gateway. For a taste of local history, you can also take a historic downtown tour or visit the Life-Saving Station Museum. You can arrange a scuba trip with Dive Ocean City to see the local reefs. Golf enthusiasts can play any of the 17 golf courses in the area. Try the War Admiral course or the Man O'War course at the Glen Riddle Golf Club. Another course worth a round is Eagle's Landing, which features great views of Sinepuxent Bay and Assateague Island National Seashore.

Dining

From spicy steamed crabs to smoked ham to fried chicken, you'll find plenty of dining choices in OC. Dessert can mean ice cream or saltwater taffy. Many of the restaurants are clustered at the Bayside Midtown/Inlet (28th to 90th), Bayside North Ocean (91st to 146th) and the Oceanside Boardwalk/Inlet areas. There are also some eateries in North Ocean City and West Ocean City.

Shopping

There are a lot of outlet shops and souvenir shops to make shopping a pretty simple experience in OC. They are most numerous along the Boardwalk. The Shade Shack fills eyewear needs while home decor can be found at Country House. The Gold Coast Mall has more shopping choices. If you want to bring home a souvenir for your pooch, Doggie Style has great items for more than 100 breeds of felines and canines.
