The nearest international airport to Banff is in Calgary, which is about 130 kilometers away from the town of Banff. So, really everything in the town is "near the airport" in a sense.
Lake Louise is another hour drive from Banff. So, if you've just got off the plane and you're itching to go skiing, Sunshine Village or Mt. Norquay are the best choices. Sunshine is only 15 minutes from Banff, and Norquay is just across the highway. Norquay really isn't much of a ski hill. Sunshine is much, much better. More terrain, more natural snow, faster moving lines. It's worth the extra time and money to go to.
Bow Falls is one of the most popular attractions in Banff. The parking lot is always full of tour buses, and there are always tourists taking pictures in front of the falls. They are beautiful, and the area around the falls has a number of little trails to wander down. It's also very near the Banff Springs Hotel, which is one of Banff's most impressive buildings to see. The Banff Springs also has one of the finest spas in Banff, which might be just what you need after a day of traveling.
To get a great view of the Rocky Mountains and the town of Banff, the best place to go is up to Sulphur Mountain Gondola. This is a quick ride, but it's nerve-rackingly steep. It doesn't require any exertion, though. Just don't forget to grab your camera out of your luggage, first!
The Banff Centre is the artistic center of Banff. It draws touring performances from around North America, as well as inspiring artists to create original material for the local scene. A show at the Banff Centre is a great way to start off a trip to Banff National Park, or to cap it off before heading back to the airport.
