Active Things To Do in Banff

Banff National Park is a giant, natural playground with an endless supply of activities to keep even the most adventurous go-getter happy. Being active in Banff is a treat. It's a must, if you travel so far to get here. In Banff National Park, you can hike, bike, ski, scuba-dive, whitewater raft, go spelunking, and horseback ride. It's all available for the person who asks.

The Canadian Rockies Rafting and Adventure Centre hosts adventure tours all throughout the Canadian mountains. The office is based out of Canmore, but most of its tours are in the Banff area. This company offers just about everything you could possibly want to try in Banff: ziplines, high ropes courses, rafting, horseback riding, snowmobiling, dog sledding, etc.

Sunshine Village Ski Resort is the closest major ski hill the town of Banff. Only a short 15 minute drive from town, followed by a 20 minute gondola ride, will take you to one of Alberta's best ski hills. This hill has an unbelievably long season, from November to May, and it gets a lot of snowfall. In fact, it has the most natural snow in Alberta. Sunshine is also famous for its quad-lifts, which really keep the lines moving smoothly.

There are a limited number of mountain biking trails in the National Park, but Healy Creek (from Sunshine Road to Cave & Basin) and Goat Creek (from Spray Lake Roads to the Banff Springs Hotel) are two of the areas most well traveled. Neither provides spectacular mountain vistas, but they are both a nice challenge and take you through forests and over creeks.
