  • What are the best things to do in Calgary? Calgary may not have a reputation for arts and culture, but it certainly has a reputation for outdoor adventure. If you are looking for snowshoeing, back-country skiing, spelunking (caving), white water rafting, horseback riding, cowboys, rodeos, or even dinosaurs, then Calgary just might become one of your favorite destinations. Of course, you can also find performing arts, spas, and a whole host of winter activities here as well.

The history of Southern Alberta is preserved at Heritage Park, the 'living museum.' This park has classic rides, candy stores, farm animals, and a train that takes visitors around the park. The Zoo not only houses a large number and variety of animals, but it is also famous for its pre-historic park, which is home to many plastic dinosaurs. Spruce Meadows is a horse lover's heaven. This show-jumping facility is one of the best in the world.

While much of the lure of this region is in the National Parks, performing art lovers should note that Calgary has some of the best acoustics in North America at the Jubilee Auditorium. There are also shows at the Epcor Centre downtown. The Globe and Uptown Theatres provide opportunity to see indie movies.

The 1988 Winter Olympics still provide Calgarians with a chance to get out and about. The Olympic Oval is one of the world's premier speed skating facilities, and Canada Olympic Park is a multi-sport facility.
