Central Maui is also known as "downtown Maui", and consists of the towns of Wailuku and Kahului. Sadly, tourists often only see downtown when they are coming and going to/from the airport. The hotels in Wailuku and Kahului do not enjoy ocean views or stunning beaches, so many tourists opt to stay in Ka'anapali or Wailea. Because these towns are not the most popular for vacationing tourists, hotel options are very limited. The three largest hotels in Kahului are the Maui Seaside, Maui Beach, and the Maui Palms, all located along Ka'ahumanu Avenue. The hotels are conveniently close to Maui's largest shopping mall, Ka'ahumanu mall, allowing guests to easily walk to the mall from the hotel. The town of Paia is less than 10 minutes from the airport and a more popular option for overnight accommodations. Some of the larger hotel options in Paia include the Paia Inn and Mama's Fish Beachfront Cottages. Also in Paia are a collection of privately owned estates that are rented out a bed and breakfasts or single room suites. These can often times be cheaper than staying at a hotel, offer striking settings, and also be much more adventurous.
