tinto Bife and Trattoria

Hacienda El Tintero 370

Tinto Bife and Trattoria are located in Plaza Nautico on the peninsula across from the dam on Lake Juriquilla, the water fowl preserve on the northern border of Queretaro. Plaza Nautico is a series of five open air restaurants sitting right on the lake, a tapas bar and one night club. There is ample parking space, even on weekends when they're quite busy. The atmosphere is fantastic at each one of these restaurants and the view is gorgeous, especially at night when you can see the lights of Queretaro below the dam. In the evening local fishermen gather on the dam to cast their nets and a few set sail across the little lake on some rickety old row boats and you'll swear are going to sink before they get to shore. There are two flocks of pelicans that winter on the lake, a white and a brown flock. One flock flies in every year from Canada and the other flock from the US. Being in one of the lakeside restaurants when the birds arrive or leave is quite an experience. If you have kids with you, the waiters will bring them baskets of break crumbs to throw out into the lake for the birds. One of the highlights of going to one of the Plaza Nautica restaurants in the evening is when the local ring-tailed lemur climbs down one of the pillars from the roof in slow motion and hangs there to watch you eat. No one seems to know where he came from as they're not native to the area, but below the dam there's a large forest. I like to think his family has been hiding in that forest for generations rather than he escaped from someone's private zoo...
