Weekend Reading: Around the Web with NileGuide
Around the Web, Travel News — By Amy Widdowson on January 22, 2010 at 4:54 pmIt’s been a busy week here NileGuide, and since it’s rather soggy in San Francisco, we’ve had plenty of time to explore everything around the web. Here’s what the NileGuide crew has been reading over the past week.
- Business Manager Victoria read about $65 tours of Los Angeles’s Gangland in the Chicago Tribune, where participants have to sign a waver before stepping off their bus into some of LA’s toughest neighborhoods. [Chicago Tribune]
- Put on your warmest long underwear – Associate Marketing Manager Alexi spent time catching on Andrew Evan’s fascinating Bus2Antartica adventure [National Geographic]
- Despite his rapier wit, Field Marketing Manager Tyler found nothing funny about the TSA agent who played a prank on a passenger by producing a bag of white powder “from her bag” after she walked through security. We all attempted to coax our stomach out of our throats when we thought of what we’d do with that kind of a “surprise”. Ugh. [Gadling]
- I wanted to remind all of you still wanting to donate to help Haiti – read Caroline McCarthy’s overview of potential charity scams before opening your wallet. Make your money work for others! [The Social at CNET]
- Community Manager Nicole is coveting BookBook’s “novel” spin on the traditional laptop case to bring with her on her next trip [TwelveSouth]
- Intern Rachel scared us all with a 200kg Jellyfish. Gorgeous shots, freaky creature. [Fonda LaShay Design]
- We all marveled at the controversial “Cougar” ad from Air New Zealand – not knowing whether to laugh out loud or go scrub the ickiness off our eyes. [Jaunted]

Hi guys,
I thought your readers would be interested in this.
TheTravelEditor.com just launched ‘It’s a Wild World’, with reviews of wildlife and ecotourism destinations as well as details of packages from selected tour operator partners. http://www.thetraveleditor.com/readabout/Ecotourism/
It’s aimed at the wider holiday market, not just wildlife enthusiasts. We want to bridge the gap and make our readers aware that wildlife tourism isn’t just for enthusiasts. It can also be part of a general holiday, combined with luxurious spa treatments, sailing and yoga.
