Shrek Wedding: Wales Couple Has Green Ceremony
Travel News, UK — By David Chalk on May 14, 2010 at 9:11 amWhy would a couple cover themselves in green body paint and don fake ears on their wedding day? For Viv and Tracey Williams of Wales, it was because their first date was seeing the movie Shrek and they wanted a Shrek-themed wedding. At their Bridgend, South Wales ceremony the whole family got into the Shrek spirit. “The best man was dressed as Monsieur Hood, my dad was Lord Farquaad, my mother was the Fairy Godmother and the maid of honor was Snow White,” the new Mrs. Williams told the Daily Mail.
Mr. Williams, who is twenty years older than his green bride, says the couple both just knew their wedding had to be a Shrek one, “We watched the films, became addicted and when we decided to get married we both knew how we wanted the wedding to be. I wouldn’t mind betting we have started a trend – the whole family absolutely loved it. It looked amazing.”
Whether Shrek weddings will indeed be all the rage across Britain the world remains to be seen, but the Williams wedding was not even the United Kingdom’s first Shrek ceremony. Last year, Keith and Christine Green also donned green body paint to tie the knot. The Greens (seriously, that’s their last name) also had their 100 guests dressed up as characters like Donkey and the Gingerbread Men. The mother of the bride Annette England, 66, told the Telegraph, “It’s not necessarily how you imagine seeing your daughter get married but it was great fun.”
