When actress Lindsay Lohan missed her Thursday court date, her lawyer dutifully informed the judge that her passport had been stolen at the Cannes Film Festival earlier in the week. Judge Marsha Revel wasn’t buying it and ordered an arrest warrant for Lohan and set bail at $100,000. The judge also suggested that the lost passport excuse could be a ruse covering up drug use. Although Lohan had received a favorable report this month from a court-mandated alcohol education program, Lohan may also be in violation of her probation since she’s required to attend one class per week.
TMZ reports that Lohan now has a brand new passport, according to her mother, and plans to fly back Friday and turn herself into the court Friday. However, Lohan might find herself in handcuffs shortly after her plane lands in the U.S. U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokeswoman Christina Gamez tells People, “In general, when we encounter a person who passes through customs with an active warrant, we arrest the person and hold them for local authorities.”
Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department spokesman Steve Whitmore told E! Online that Lohan “will be treated like anyone else,” and that an airport arrest “is potentially a possibility.”
If Lohan posts bail, the judge has ordered she abstain from alcohol, be fitted with an alcohol-monitoring bracelet, and be subject to random drug testing once a week. Deputy District Attorney Danette Meyers said she’ll seek up to six months in jail for Lohan. Meyers also wants proof that Lohan had indeed purchased a flight ticket to make Thursday’s hearing.
