There’s no getting around the fact that traveling has become a very big hassle. Long lines, intense security searches, random fees, and excessive amounts of time spent waiting and waiting… and waiting don’t make for an enjoyable start or end to a vacation. But a few airports are now thinking of new ways to spice up the airport experience.
Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) used to only offer free wireless internet on weekends. Not anymore folks, because now you can get free wireless internet whenever you want. They also have a Passenger Chillin’ Zone, fully outfitted with plush sofas and chairs, musical performances and guest appearances. Where you would once dread that awful four hour layover, you now have live entertainment right near your waiting area!
Miami International Airport (MIA) has themed parties every weekend of summer through the end of August. Vancouver International Airport (YVR) has Take-Off Fridays, which is a festival in the domestic terminal and includes face painting, DJs, special-themed meals and chocolate samples. Every Friday through the end of the month at San Francisco International Airport (SFO), three stages will host live bands between 11AM-2PM.
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) also has a few new tricks up its sleeves. Now travelers can visit the Theme Building, which was closed for seismic retrofitting and a $12.3 million renovation. This weekend hotspot is open from 8am-4pm and provides telescopes to observe arriving and departing flights. And, that’s not all LAX is offering; now Pink’s, the famous Hollywood hot dog stand, has a location in the pre-security section of the Tom Bradley International Terminal. Be sure to check out their new LAX International dog before you leave the country.
With so many awesome opportunities for both kids and adults, there’s no reason not to enjoy the perks that airports have started providing when you are forced to be there. And hey, there are even special treats/events for dogs if you do your research.
