Are You the World’s Worst Traveler?

Maybe during some debaucherous weekend to Vegas you got married and arrested, or another time a cab driver in New Jersey ripped you off of $500. Whatever your travel misfortunes have been, those same misfortunes might actually now be the best thing that’s ever happened to you. One travel insurance company is rewarding bad travelers by choosing the “world’s unluckiest traveler”, who will win a $10,000 vacation.
Travel Guard North America will be running the contest until December 31st 2010. Each month they’ve been rewarding monthly winners, while they’ll be choosing a grand prize winner after the holidays, who will be awarded a $10,000 vacation. Thus far there have been nearly 1,000 submissions entered into the contest.
While we would love a $10,000 vacation, we’re thankful we’ve not been on the wrong end of many of the participant’s bad travel moments. One traveler was serving as a doctor on a medical volunteer trip, until he fell from a cliff, broke his leg, and became a patient. And don’t think kids are immune – some of the list of included kids. One child offered a TSA agent a can of peanuts, except instead of peanuts, inside was a toy snake (Ed. note: Wocka wocka… sigh). Our favorite misfortune may be the cruise ship that ran into a sand bar while trying to dock in time to make a tour, puncturing a hole in the hull. The ship was able to break free, dock, and let the 500 passengers off, just moments before it sunk.
