Dump the Boat: Travel by Jet Pack Instead
Travel News — By spencerspellman on January 13, 2011 at 9:28 amIs it just us, or does 2011 already poised to be the year of inventions? (Ed. note: Might just be us…) While not all of the gadgets are travel related, this one is: a water-fueled jet pack that beats the pants off a boring ferry ride.
Introducing the Jetlev-Flyer, a futuristic jet pack that is powered by water and brings to mind scenes from Toy Story and Arrested Development. According to the Daily Mail, the new water-fueled jet pack was revealed at the London International Boat Show, a seven-day event which highlights the best in marine technology. The main event of the show was the revealing of the jet pack, which included demonstrations over the Thames River in East London.

We’re glad to see that the Jetlev-Flyer doesn’t depend on batteries or an extension chord, instead using an engine which pumps water through a down-spiraling tube. As the Daily Mail reports, the jet pack can hover over water at approximately 100 feet and travel at 20 mph. While we don’t necessarily see a Jetlev-Flyer Jet Pack coming to your nearby water park, you can still get your hands on one – the Jetlev-Flyer can be yours for about $170,000. Who said it was too early to start asking for next year’s Christmas present?
