Home to famed newspaper mogul William Randolph Hearst, Hearst Castle is synonymous with early 20th century over-the-top luxury. During Hearst’s life, he hosted many parties and visitors ranging from Charlie Chaplin to Franklin Roosevelt, and each visitor had plenty to do while at “the ranch”, including taking a dip in the stately pool pictured above.

The Hearst family donated the property to the state of California in 1957, and it has since become a National Historic Landmark and is open for public tours. Hearst descendants still use a Victorian house located on the property as a family retreat.
