5 Places in 4 Cities Where You Can Go Camping

Porterdale’s not in Atlanta proper, but thanks to urban sprawl, this little town on the Yellow River is definitely considered part of the larger metro Atlanta area. You’ll need a car to get to Porterdale, which is about 25-40 minutes to the northeast of downtown Atlanta, depending on traffic. Once there, you can pitch your tent along the river before heading over to the Porterdale Yak Club (yes, yak club- the anti-yacht club), which rents kayaks and canoes for amateur and intermediate river runners. If you’re craving civilization, “downtown” Porterdale, also on the river, has a small but enthusiastic cafe and music scene.
