Discount Cards In Amsterdam – IAMsterdam and Museum Card

Travel Tips, What's New — By Anna Bandurska on August 27, 2010 at 6:49 pm

When you visit Amsterdam you will notice that there are many tourist coupons and cards available to save you money during your visit.  The most common of these are the IAMsterdam card and the Museumkaart (museum card), and many times visitors are confused between these two cards and what they offer.  Hopefully, this information will help you pick the card that’s right for you…

The most popular is the IAMsterdam card, which offers over 40 free and 50 discounted offers on major tourist destinations and restaurants.  The card comes with a public transportation ticket and pocket guide to help you make the most of the discounts.  It is available for a variety of durations: 24 hours (38 Euros), 48 hours (48 Euros) and 72 hours (58 Euros).

The benefits of the IAMsterdam card are the public transport ticket and the guide book, which help you get to your destination quicker.  However, if you’re in Amsterdam for more than a couple of days, or are planing on travelling to other cities in the Netherlands, it’s beneficial to look into buying the Museumkaart instead.

This museum card costs 39.95 Euros for adults and 19.95 Euros for those under 25, and is valid at most major museums in the Netherlands.  Amsterdam museums on the list include the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam Historic Museum, Rembrandt’s House, Oude Kerk, Nieuwe Kerk and many more, with the Anne Frank House being added to the list in October.  You can also use it at the Maurithuis museum and Escher Museum in The Hague.  The Card is valid for a year from first use and can be purchased in person at many museums (including the Nieuwe Kerk).
