As summer begins to wind down and the exhilaration that once filled the air mellows, the Morningside neighborhood is kicking off an inaugural celebration aimed at putting the fun back into our lazy summer weekends. The Morningside Summer Block Party will take place Saturday, Aug. 28 from 12:30 to 10 p.m. in the parking lot behind D.B.A Barbecue and The Original El Taco at the corner of Virginia and Amsterdam Avenues. The rain or shine bash will include tasty ice-cold cocktails and Abita beer all day along with food from D.B.A, Mali Thai and El Taco—make sure not to miss the mouthwatering braised short rib taco with fresh cilantro, onion and corn tortilla and the Mexico City grilled corn-on-the-cob with lime mayo and queso cotija.
Live musical entertainment will include performances from Mudcat, East Ponce Soul Faction and The Hollidays with a closing performance by The Oliver Wood & Joe McGuinness Band. Leave your four-legged friends at home, but bring the kids as there will be a children’s area open from 1 to 6 p.m. with games and activities.
Tickets are $5 in advance or $10 at the door; children under 14 are free. The best part, a portion of the proceeds will benefit Virginia-Highland’s firehouse #19.
