Top 10: Best of Beijing Nightlife
What's New — By Jenny on April 5, 2010 at 2:01 amGearing up for a night out in Beijing? You’re in luck: the scene here has really jump-started in the last decade or two, and there’s enough variety for everyone to find something that suits their fancy.
1. Karaoke may be for the drunk and silly in the U.S., but don’t jump to the conclusion that Beijingers have the same light-hearted approach. Natives in Beijing take their karaoke seriously, and it’s a total blast to watch — or participate in! Melody is one of the top spots, so be prepared for the crowds.
2. Both understated and very elegant, Q Bar is most notable for its unique and delicious cocktails, from interesting takes on the originals to totally new inventions. If it’s a nice day, sit outside and enjoy the views from the rooftop terrace.
3. The World of Suzie Wong is open late, and is one of Beijing’s original clubs. The interiors are completely decked out in old-school Chinese dynastic style, but the music is all contemporary.
4. If beer’s more your taste, you can find just about any flavor you could imagine at Beer Mania. Dozens of different beers are on the menu here, as well as some Belgian salty and sweet snacks and the other usual bar beverages.
5. Looking to put on your hottest outfit and dance the night away? Head to Angel, an exclusive club where only the hippest people, music, and drinks can be found.
6. If you’re longing for the laidback vibes of an American bar, visit the Buddha Bar. Sip on a beer as you chill out lakeside, while South American tunes drift out over the water.
7. For live jazz in the city, East Shore Live Jazz Cafe is unrivaled in Beijing. Cozy atmosphere and strong drinks help make this the place to be — just make sure you go on a live music night.
8. As a student hangout, Lush has a different feel altogether. Students come here to study during the day, then let their hair down and get their drink on at night. The music is always fresh and eclectic and the vibe is chill, though those over 30 may feel a bit out of place.
9. The Irish pub is the same everywhere, and Durty Nellie’s is no exception. From Guinness to Jameson, all the usual culprits can be found here.
10. If you’ve got someone to impress, take them to Lan. The top-notch cocktails and luxurious interior will impress anyone and everyone.
