Cabo’s Best Breakfast
Food, Things to Do, Travel Tips, What's New — By Chris Sands on October 14, 2011 at 9:38 pmConsistently voted as the best breakfast and brunch spot in Cabo (one prominent travel publication even proclaimed it the best breakfast stop in all of Mexico), Mama’s Royal Cafe was opened by chef and owner Spencer Moore in 1991, and has been thriving ever since as a haven for those who wish to start their day in paradise on exactly the right note. With a quaint patio dining area set amidst bougainvillea, soothing Mexican-flavored guitar, and the chirps of the colorful calandria birds, Mama’s combines tropical atmosphere with a menu rich in Mexican and American standards.

Mama’s signature dish is a decadent, delicious, and satisfying french toast stuffed with cream cheese, topped with bananas and pecan nuts, and flambeed in Cointreau. Eggs Benedict and omelets (there are over forty varieties available) are also house specialties, with all egg dishes accompanied by potatoes, fresh fruit, and toast. For diners who prefer a more traditional Mexican breakfast, the menu also features huevos rancheros, breakfast burritos, and chilaquiles (an excellent hangover cure consisting of diced tortillas, chicken, chili, and cheese). Mimosas are a beverage favorite, as are fruit smoothies and the excellent freshly roasted coffee from Chiapas.
At night (after 5 p.m.), Mama’s metamorphosizes into Felix’, a restaurant specializing in Mexican favorites like chiles en nogada, pozole, and machaca.
