Red Bull X-Fighters coming to Cairo

Did you know the Pyramids and Red Bull have something in common? It’s not that the workers who built them were powered by Red Bull, although – since Red Bull “gives you wings” – that could explain a lot. No, it’s that on May 14th 2010 the Red Bull X-Fighters are coming to Cairo as part of their world tour.

Twelve professional freestyle motocross riders from all over the world will battle it out in front of the Great Sphinx, pulling various jumps, spins, backflips and other insane extreme biking stunts in their quest to be crowned champion.

Even though concerts are held at the Pyramids, a motocross comp seems like kind of a funny event to put on. There is already concern that the traffic fumes from visiting tour buses – as well as the general volume of visitors – are damaging the monuments. It will be interesting to see how sensitively the competition is managed.

That said, it does promise to be pretty spectacular.

If you fancy going, tickets are available from the website. And let me know how it is, because I’m out of the country at the moment and so can’t go!
