Chicago’s New Watchful EYE
Things to Do, What's New — By adimarcial on June 14, 2010 at 7:11 pmOn July 7th, Chicago residents and tourists will have a watchful eye on their back when Chicago artist, Tony Tasset, unveils “EYE,” his three-story giant eyeball sculpture. The installation is part of “Art Loop 2010,” presented by the Chicago Loop Alliance, and will be accompanied by “Cardinal,” a display of 156 banners that will hang from lampposts on State Street to reveal an image of the state bird. The artists intention is to miniaturize the space surrounding it using a strong symbolic image. It will certainly make “the Bean” look puny!
The piece will be completely life-like and made of steel reinforced fiberglass that even has a bright blue iris like the artist’s own eye. The sculpture will be on display in Pritzker Park from July 7 to October 31, just in time for Halloween (how fitting).
