We have had a taste of summer these past few days and Lake Shore Drive has been packed with bikers. This is the season we forget the cold, windy winter days and find every excuse to be in the great outdoors, even if it’s a bit muggy and humid! Who’s complaining after that winter? Whether you are a Chicago resident who is ready to pump some air back in those tires, or you are just visiting and want to take advantage of some great bike rides, here are a few suggestions to take advantage of a fantastic and fun biking city!
Bike the Drive
Join thousands of Chicagoans to ride on 15 miles of Lake Shore Drive, with only bikes on the road! This annual event shuts down the drive to make an enjoyable ride along Lake Michigan. Ride the full 30 mile loop from Bryn Mawr to the South Side and see breath taking views of the city!

Bike to Work Week
Even if you don’t work in Chicago, show your biking support by participating in this weeks’ great events. Enjoy a drink at Goose Island Brewery during happy hour and watch a screening of Biking the Boulevards, take a free 2-hour evening bike tour of the Loop, and join hundreds of supporters in the official Bike to Work rally.
June 13-17, www.explorechicago.org
Trek through the city through the wee hours of the night and morning with thousands of other cyclists for this fun, casual ride. Cycle past Chicago’s best neighborhoods, then watch the sun rise over the lake! Enjoy food and refreshments before and after the ride.

Take a Bike Tour
Take your choice of a guided bike tour through Chicago’s neighborhoods, suburbs, and trails. Get great information and choose tours that are suitable for all ages and fitness levels. I recommend Bike Chicago and Bobby’s Bike Hike.
Rent a Bike
Didn’t come with a bike? Rent one and take your own tour of Chicago. Explore and discover this great city all on your own or with your friends and family. Ride up Lake Michigan, down to Hyde Park, and all the way to Northwestern University! Here is a thorough list of bike rental options in Chicago.
