For the next two months, the the tourism board of Costa Rica is giving away hundreds of free trips totaling $1,000,000 as part of the country’s wildly successful Million Dollar Gift of Happiness campaign, which began the first week of October and wraps up on February 3rd, 2012. In the month and a half since the launch, the Costa Rica Tourism Board’s facebook page went from 8000 “likes” to more than 50,000, and the excitement seems to be mounting; today, more than 7000 people were “talking about” Costa Rica and spreading the details of the contest, which is only open to North Americans. A affably smug computer-generated sloth makes an apropos mascot of the Million Dollar Gift campaign, urging wannabee winners to remember some of three simple reasons to visit Costa Rica: it has 5% of the world’s bio-diversity, two oceans, and friendly locals, especially those charming perezosos.
Entering to win is easy; all you have to do is fill out a very short online form, choose your preferred version of happiness from five themes: adventure, wildlife, authentic, flora and fauna, or romantic, then start day-dreaming as the countdown continues. Visit the Costa Rica Tourism Board’s facebook page to enter and for details. ¡Pura Vida!
