Events, Things to Do — By christinanellemann on April 23, 2010 at 9:00 am

The snow may still be flying up a the Lake, but most Tahoe golf courses and events are starting to heat up. Several golf courses including Edgewood, Incline Village and Montreaux on the Mount Rose Highway are open and ready for playing.

Golf courses at the lake boast that your ball can fly farther at a higher elevation. So even professionals are taking advantage of that benefit.

On July 12-18, 2010 will be the annual Reno/Tahoe Open at Edgewood Tahoe which will feature 132 PGA Tour members, all vying for the title of Reno-Tahoe Open Champion with a $3,500,000 purse, as well as helping to raise money for local charities. Since 1999 northern Nevada charities have benefited from over $1.8 million dollars thanks to the the Reno-Tahoe Open Foundation. The Reno-Tahoe Open will take place at the Jack Nicklaus signature golf course, Montreaux, and there will be live television coverage on the Golf Channel.

This year, the theme of the Reno-Tahoe Open is “Salute to Troops”. The main recipient of fundraising dollars for the 2010 event will be the Nevada Military Support Alliance (NMSA).

Tickets are on sale now for the 21st annual American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe. The tournament week begins Tuesday, July 13th with the Lake Tahoe Celeb-Am and runs through Sunday, July 18th, 2010. The Tahoe Celebrity Golf Week will feature traditional contenders like Rhoden, Quinn, Tolliver and Wagner teeing off with other athletes like Tony Romo  and Trent Dilfer.

If the Open or the Celebrity Challenge is out of your price range, there are several other events and specials happening at courses around the lake this spring and summer that are friendlier to your wallet.

Edgewood Tahoe is having a Spirit of Spring fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe. This will be an evening of appetizers, wine, beer, cordials and waters. A special selection of baskets will be displayed to win as well as a trip to Hawaii and other raffle items.

There are Free Demo Days at the Champ Course at Incline Village Golf Courses. On select Saturdays, come take a test drive of several brands of clubs.

This summer active military personnel can get 50% off green fees when accompanied by a full paying guest on Sunday through Thursday. And at the Old Greenwood in Truckee, book a group of nine or more for the 2010 golf season by April 30, 2010 and play both Old Greenwood and Gray’s Crossing courses from May 14 to June 3, or October 4 to 24, 2010 for $100 each.
