Screaming for Lake Tahoe Ice Cream

Food, Things to Do — By christinanellemann on June 29, 2010 at 9:00 am

With temperatures finally reaching into the 80s and 90s for the next coming weeks, this is a good time to celebrate summer with an ice cream cone. Summer may not be complete without a visit to an ice cream shop and the multitude of flavors. Several locations around the lake serve up many different kinds of ice cream…some with a twist.

Sno Flake Drive In

Sno Flake, a South Lake Tahoe summer staple, offers classic drive in fare: burgers and fries. But be sure to top off your lunch with a soft serve ice cream or a root beer float.

Red Hut Soda Fountain

Just like where Grandma and Grandpa used to date. The Red Hut Soda Fountain, right next to the Red Hut Café serves up classic ice cream, root beer floats, chocolate sundaes, sodas and one heck of a banana split.

Richardson’s Ice Cream Parlor

Known for their HUGE scoops of ice cream, this traditional-style ice cream parlor in South Lake Tahoe at Camp Richardson is very popular, so be prepared to wait in line. But you can wander around the camp or head to the beach afterward with your cone.

Tahoe Creamery

Tahoe Peach Livin’ on the Beach. Tahoe Trip Mint Chip. Tahoe Funk Chocolate Hunk. Get the picture? This is the original Tahoe Creamery ice cream that is really starting to gather a bunch of loyal followers. This thick, delicious and handmade ice cream can be found at several locations around the Reno/Tahoe area. At the lake, you can get a few scoops of Tahoe Harvest Pumpkin Fest or Tahoe Crest Chocolate Conquest at the Gear and Grinds Café and make up your own rhyme.
