Ski season at Tahoe is in full swing and visitors are planning their trips to the snow. To stay close to the powder action, most people find it beneficial to pick a hotel that is right next to, or even in the middle of, a ski resort. Tahoe has some of the best ski in/ski out hotels in the Sierras and most of these hotels have stay-and-ski specials and packages throughout the winter ski and snowboard season.

Heavenly Village

If you stay in Heavenly Village, the Marriott Grand Residence Club or at the nearby Embassy Suites, you are right at the bottom of the Heavenly Aerial Tram that will take you to the top of one of the best ski mountains in the Tahoe area. If you want to be even closer to the action, stay at the Ridge Pointe or the Ridge Tahoe which are right next to the Stagecoach Express Lift and the Stagecoach Lodge.

Resort at Squaw Creek or the Plumpjack Squaw Valley Inn

If you stay right in the center of Squaw Valley, you’ll never have to leave. They have it all here: access to all ski runs, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, dog sledding, spas, restaurants and shopping. The Resort at Squaw Creek offers luxurious accommodations with picture windows that offer stunning views of the snow-covered mountains and the Plumpjack is a cozy and intimate hotel.

Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort

If you stay at one of the charming condos or one of the Northstar Village rooms, you get access to all that Northstar offers. All guests have access to complimentary on-site shuttle service, wireless Internet, extended cable including HBO, and the recreation center with outdoor spas, saunas, swimming pools and a fitness center. Northstar also offers a tubing hill for the kids, shopping and spas for the adults, and a ski and snowboard school for all ages.

Kirkwood Mountain Resort

Kirkwood is one of the farthest ski resorts from the lake in the Tahoe Basin, but it gets less crowds and it has some of the deepest powder,  so your rented condo or hotel room will seem extra private. You can stay at various properties around the area including the Snowcrest Kirkwood condos, the Mountain Club hotel or the frill-less Base Camp, which is a great starting off point for the mountain adventurer.

Ritz-Carlton Highlands

Even though it is located just about mid-mountain at the Northstar resort, this beautiful hotel is in a league of its own. This is where you want to go if you are splurging. The Ritz-Carlton Highlands has its own gondola down to the Northstar Village with 8-passenger cabins, ski valet services and a heated spa lap pool overlooking the slopes. Now that’s what I call a ski vacation!

The Rittz Carlton Highlands is a fabulous place to stay for family skiing. You ski from and to the hotel with staff available to help put on your boots, place your skis in the snow and meet you upon your return to carry and srore your equipment. The entire staff is friendly and most helpful. The restaurant, Manzinita, is outstanding. If you prefer a snack or quick meal, it is available. The menu in the lobby is great with comfortable furniture and views of the snow covered trees and “the slopes”.

There are heated outdoor pools and a full spa for hotel guests. Hotel guests can take advantage of the children’s ski school . Transportation is available all day for guests and children to the school and back to the hotel. It does not get any better.
