Photographs of Historic Los Angeles part II

What's New — By Noah Albert on May 15, 2011 at 4:35 pm

Here is another collection of photos of the Los Angeles of yester-year, pulled from this Vintage (Historic) Photos flickr page. The shots below are from the years 1920-1971 and include some good urban vistas, as well as a lot of pictures featuring department stores and department store shoppers.  This piece is the follow-up to my first Photographs of Historic Los Angeles collection which was put together from the Library of Congress archives.

The force behind this collection is army.arch (i.e. Adam), an architectural historian who has clearly spent a lot of time in archives scanning photos and is kind enough to post a lot of material on his flickr page. This Los Angeles set from his flickr is a good one too. I especially appreciate the emphasis on commercial spaces and commercial architecture, for example this shorter set on LA department stores covering the Bullock’s, the Broadway, CA Robinson’s, and the May Company Department stores downtown.
