Santa Monica Pier
Pull on your hoodie and head over to the Santa Monica Pier for one of the most epic views in all of Los Angeles. At Pacific Park, a family friendly 2-acre seaside amusement park, ride the famed Pacific Wheel, which stands a staggering 130 feet above the ocean. As you rise to the top in your gondola, gawk at the breathtaking views of the city to the East and the limitless glimmer of the Pacific Ocean. It’s really not possible for me to fall more in love with Los Angeles than I already am, but after hiking to the top of the Hollywood sign up the wide trails of Bronson Canyon, I can say that true love lasts forever. About a 3 ½ hour round trip trek, be sure to bring plenty of water and your camera for the unbeatable 360 degree views of the undulating Valley hills to the North, Downtown LA to the South, and the Pacific Ocean to the West. Temescal Canyon, another must-hike on the Westside, offers gasp-worthy views along the Pacific, south from Newport to north of Zuma, on the clearest of days. Other favorite local trails with exceptional views include Fryman and Runyon Canyons.
Griffith Park Observatory
Situated 1,134 feet above sea level, Griffith Park Observatory in Los Feliz hails terrific views of Los Angeles. Its dedication to astronomy and science encourages visitors to observe the day and night skies through free powerful, public telescopes. Enjoy the sweeping views of the city during the day and gaze at the full moon when the nights sets in. Check out the website for information on fun events such as monthly Public Star Parties and visible meteor shower dates.
Home of the popular Makeout Point and Lover’s Lane, take your honey on a cruise down LA’s popular Mulholland Drive through the Hollywood and Valley canyons. Play out your own version of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream,” while enjoying the gorgeous views from one of many lookout points off Laurel Canyon, Coldwater Canyon, and Nichols Canyon Road. Revisit young love while keeping one eye peeled for the cops who take great pleasure in busting the many couples parked at the trendy high school hook up spots.
