You’ve probably stayed at a fair share of rubbish hotels in your lifetime, but have you ever stayed at a hotel constructed of garbage? Well, five ‘lucky’ people won the privilege to do so and stay at Beach Garbage Hotel – a life-size art installation now located in Madrid’s Plaza del Callao – through a Facebook competition.
Created by German artist Ha Schult, Beach Garbage Hotel was largely constructed of garbage washed up on European beaches, and set up to coincide with Madrid’s FITUR – a major trade exposition for international tourism. Schult’s goal is to draw attention to ocean pollution, mass tourism, and their effect on beaches.
Beach Garbage Hotel is on public display in Plaza del Callao until Sunday, January 23.
