Dim the Lights, Save the Earth
What's New — By sarahpruitt on March 29, 2010 at 11:08 pmThe famous New York City skyline burned a little less bright this past Saturday night.
To celebrate this year’s Earth Hour, a host of buildings and other structures across the city dimmed their lights on Saturday, March 27 from 8:30 to 9:30 pm in support of action against climate change.
Among the popular landmarks that went dark for Earth Hour were:
- Empire State Building
- Times Square (including the huge neon signs for Thomson Reuters, Nasdaq, Chase and Coca-Cola)
- Broadway theater marquees
- United Nations headquarters
- City Hall
- Brooklyn Bridge
- New York Public Library
Organized by the World Wildlife Fund and begun in Australia in 2007, Earth Hour this year involved an estimated 100 billion people around the world.
