Catch a Flick – Orlando’s Top Five Movie Theaters
Things to Do — By Kristen Manieri on March 31, 2010 at 8:04 pmMmmm… the salty smell of popcorn, the sweet taste of soda, and the thrill of escaping into another world for two hours! It’s time to go to the movies. There are dozens of movie theaters in Central Florida, but you’re on vacay, so you can afford to be choosy; no ordinary film experience will do. So I’ve created this list of Orlando’s TOP FIVE movie theaters. Each one takes going to the movies to a whole new level.
Plaza Cinema Cafe - Plaza is the newest kid on the block which means movie goers should expect state-of-the-art everything. You won’t be disappointed. There are 12 auditoriums, each decked-out with gigantic leather lounge chairs. There are 2 cafes and wine bars serving a menu packed with surprising selections like paninis, popcorn shrimp, and loaded baked potatoes. Plaza is nicely situated at the foot of downtown’s Church Street Station and a short stroll from Wall Street Plaza.
AMC at Universal CityWalk – CityWalk’s movie theater is a fan favorite because it’s just so huge. With 20 screens including one IMAX, your gang is bound to find something they’ll all agree on. I love that a dozen restaurants and a bevy of bars are just a stone’s throw away for enjoyment before or after your flick.
**HOT TIP: Be sure to contemplate Universal’s Meal and Movie Deal. You get dinner at one of CityWalk’s eateries plus admission to the movies for only $21.95. Sweet deal!
Regal Pointe Orlando - Another 20+ IMAX mega theater, Regal Pointe Orlando is also flanked by a great selection of restaurants and nightlife venues. Situated in the heart of I-Drive, this theater is an ideal stopping point after a long afternoon of strolling the strip – or maybe just a quick escape from your meeting at the Orange County Convention Center.
AMC 24 Downtown Disney - Pleasure Island might be fading fast, but its 24-theater movie complex is still going strong. Along with a huge selection of films enjoyed in loveseat-style stadium seating, AMC 24 is also one of the first theaters in the US to upgrade to Enhanced Theater Experience (ETX™). Their ETX auditorium includes a 20 percent larger, floor-to-ceiling screen, 3D technology, and 12 channel audio and digital projection. AMC debuted the ETX auditorium for the premier of Alice in Wonderland in 3D on March 5.
The Enzian - There is just one, normal-sized screen at The Enzian but don’t let this low-tech experience deter you. The Enzian’s appeal stems from two unique features: 1) it only shows the best independent films and cult classics; 2) moviegoers sit in comfy chairs at cafe tables while noshing on snacks from their gourmet menu packed with flatbreads and delicious salads and sipping world-class wines.
