Oxford Street Leederville Changes for Perth Visitors
Food, What's New — By Amanda Kendle on August 3, 2010 at 12:58 pmI took a stroll down the Oxford Street cafe strip in Leederville this week and was a little surprised to see a few changes in the air. Two of my favourite cafes are boarded up at the moment with an air of renovation about them. I had seen that Cafe 130 was closed a while back, citing storm damage, but they’re still closed; next door, Cafe Villa is now also closed and has got this sign on it:
I’m not yet sure if the something new is going to take up the space of both the old cafes, and exactly what the something new is, well that’s also currently a secret from me! So if you’re visiting Perth soon and take my advice to check out our cafe scene, there’s this element of excitement if you head to Oxford Street.
On this trip, since I couldn’t stop at either of these places, I continued just a few stores on and decided to treat myself at the Chocolateria San Churro instead. They served me up this delicious Spanish Hot Chocolate which really hit the spot on a windy, cold day. It’s a thick drink, more like drinking pure melted chocolate than any kind of regular hot chocolate drink, so be prepared for your sweet taste buds to be made very, very happy. San Churro isĀ new to Oxford Street this year, so it just goes to show that new is not necessarily bad and gives me hope that whatever opens in the being-renovated space on the corner could become my new favourite place to go.
