A Night of Off-Beat Belly Dancing

Words fail to do justice to the Off-Beat Belly Dancing show at the Blue Monk.  Located in the heart of Southeast Portland, the Blue Monk is always a fantastic spot for happy hour drinks, deliciously fresh meals, and a hopping atmosphere.  But this is upstairs.  Downstairs, deep in the basement and entirely without cell phone service, there is a completely different show happening.  On the third Friday of every month, the Blue Monk is something else entirely.

Enter the Off-Beat Belly Dancing Troupe (yes, this is what they call themselves), a sensual and rowdy show of creativity and gyrating bellies.  This show is as punk-rock as belly dancing can get, complete with swords, tattoos, and dreadlocks.  Each performer is unique, creatively, and distinctively herself, lending this belly dancing show a distinct air of feminism.

Get here early, grab a table as close to the stage as you can get, and watch the fun unfold.  The show begins around 7pm and ends around 10pm, but arrive at 6pm and partake in the happy hour food and drink specials.  If you arrive at 6pm, you’ll have no trouble snagging a table near the front of the house.
