Cars, Cleats and Courts
Events, What's New — By Erica Firpo on May 7, 2010 at 2:18 pmDespite the rain, this week in Rome has packed a punch. On Sunday, Rafael Nadal won his 17th Master’s title (tying Andre Agassi’s record) in Rome at the BNL Internazionali Tennis tournament beating fellow Spaniard David Ferrer 7-5, 6-2. #1 ranked Serena Williams may be vying for the trophy at tomorrow’s Women’s final, as long as she beats #6 Jelena Jankovic today at 4pm (Rome). Just yesterday, Jankovic nearly shut out Venus Williams 6-0, 6-1 and kicked her off the courts, squelching the possibility of an all-Williams final. If in Rome, you may still be able to snag tickets to tomorrow’s final.
On Wednesday night, at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico, Inter beat hometown favorite giallorossi 1-0 to win the Coppa Italia. As expected, fisticuffs followed Inter’s victory, and Rome was less than enthused. For a replete breakdown of the game and games to come, visit Serie A Weekly (@SerieAWeekly )and and Goal.com . And live football commentary by Gabriele Marcotti always brings a smile: @Marcotti. In Rome this weekend or next and want to catch a game? Next up at the Stadio Olimpico: Roma-Cagliari (in Rome), May 9 and Lazio-Udine, May 16 (Rome).
MilleMiglia sped out of Brescia just after midnight and a fleet of more than 300 classic cars arrives in Rome this evening. Follow me @NG_Rome at Castel Sant’Angelo 8pm (Rome) as I look for Jamiroquai’s Maserati, 33 vintage Ferraris and other fabulous cars. In Rome? Watch from the Centro Storico as vintage cars rev the streets, and wake up at 6 am for the departure up the Lungotevere. Or watch curbside via twitter from drivers @achrisevans and @teammcqueen507
