How to Enjoy a Roman Sunset
Hotels, Nightlife, Things to Do, What's New — By Erica Firpo on June 24, 2010 at 11:39 pmMy favorite Must See for Rome is the view– any off-kilter perspective of the Eternal City while the sun lowers itself in the backdrop of the multi-domed panorama. Preferably, I have a cool beverage in hand as I watch the tramonto coat the city in an incandescent pink haze. With the hot weather solidifying itself into the Roman evening, a rooftop aperitivo must be integrated into any stay in Rome, whether long or short. Lately my top three watering holes with a view are:
- The Terrazzo at the St. George Hotel, a 360 degree panorama from the rooftop of Rome and almost all of her domes (as shown on right and below)
- The Rooftop Lounge bar at Grand Hotel de la Minerve, front row and eye-to-eye view of the dome of the Pantheon, and occasionally a keyboardist singing the best Manilow hits.
- American Bar at Hotel Forum, the most private peak at the Forum (seats about 6 people)
Honorable Mention: Forty Seven, bird’s eye view of the delectably cute and round Temple of Hercules
