Fashion Event Celebrating Everything Local

Events, Things to Do — By meaghanclark on April 6, 2010 at 7:08 pm

San Diego is often all about celebrating fashion – with Bikini Week in the summertime atop the rooftops of some of San Diego’s hottest hotels, or La Jolla’s very own Fashion Film Festival happening this year at the end of the month – we love to celebrate style. On this long list of fashion-related events is the Thread Show, an annual event produced by locals, designed by locals and displaying locals’ work. This year’s at Horton Plaza in an empty retail space, the Thread team will set up shop, featuring a slew of well known local designers like the sailor suit creator Fables by Barrie or the Etsy favorite Clover and Folly.

What makes the event even more special is that it isn’t your average shopping fest/ fashion show – sticking to the whole “green theme” Thread offers a slew of eco-friendly options for you to get to the event, participate in the event and generally enjoy the event: just $8 to get in, you’ll get a discount if you take public transportation; bring in gently worn clothes and exchange them for someone else’s similarly ‘used’ items; the section Thread Responsibly is dedicated entirely to green garb, showcasing those designers who are all about saving the planet.

In addition to the spectacularly fashionable event on Sunday, Thread is offering up a pre-party for truly dedicated San Diego fashionistas on Saturday at the W Hotel. It’s just another way San Diegans can just off their slightly tanned, toned body this year – dressing fashionably!
