Super Bowl Sunday… SUNday… SUNDAY!

It’s a few hours away…the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers are shining their helmets for Super Bowl XLV, which will air today at 3:30 pm (Pacific Standard time). Where are you going to watch the game? While I prefer to kick back on my couch in my cozies with salty chips and a frosty beverage, it’s way more festive to imbibe at sports bars with fellow football-watchers. In the spirit of the ol’ game, I’ve listed local pubs and bars where you’re sure to find flatscreens, fans, food, and a little hair of the dog.

Santa Barbara Brewing Company

This State Street favorite is the perfect spot for pub grub and sports chatter. 501 State Street.

Union Ale

This new pub in the Funk Zone of lower State Street dishes up burgers, flat-bread pizzas, sweet potato fries, and local brews to keep you satiated throughout the game.  214 State Street.

Traditional Irish dishes—think fish and chips and shepherds pie—beer on tap, pool tables, and darts will make your Super Bowl experience fun and filling at this old-meets-new world pub. 18 E. Ortega Street.

Madison’s Grill & Tavern

Hearty helpings of American fare, wheat beer, and strong spirits are served at this centrally located classic bar and grill.  525 State Street.

The Neighborhood

Pool and ping-pong (turned beer-pong come nightfall), greasy grub, and cheap brews abound at this local watering hole. 235 W. Montecito Street.

The Brewhouse

Saddle up to the bar to watch the game with pitchers of cold home brew and tasty comfort food (the enchiladas are heaven). 229 W. Montecito Street.
