Friday Photo: Fresh Fish

Food, Photo Friday — By mariannerogerson on July 23, 2010 at 5:22 am

Today’s Friday Photo is of some fresh fish for sale at the Tekka Centre, one of Singapore’s best wet markets.

Wet markets are the traditional food markets found all over Singapore. Named because of the vast quantities of melting ice, and the constant washing-down of the fish and meat stalls, the wet markets house hundreds of stalls hawking all manner of fruit and vegetables, spices and herbs, dried goods, seafood, meat, poultry and flowers.

If you are new to Asia they are good place to get to know the local fruits, vegetables and seafood and see a slice of local life, taking in the variety of sights and sounds, colours and aromas.

For the freshest of the fresh you’ll need to head down early in the morning – just don’t wear your best shoes!
