Events, What's New — By mariannerogerson on October 14, 2010 at 5:55 ami Light Marina Bay, Asia’s First Sustainable Light Art Festival is set to illuminate Marina Bay from tomorrow 15th October, until 7th November. This three-week long festival is a free outdoor event to celebrate Singapore’s nightscape and to create awareness for energy-saving lighting technology for the urban environment.
The highlight of the festival is The Light Walk, which will transform Marina Bay with more than 20 dynamic light art installations and sculptures, in addition to interactive and performance-based art displays from 15 Singaporean artists and 19 international artists. All the light artworks will use energy-efficient lights and lighting techniques.
Installations to look out for include My Public Garden by French light art group, TILT, which will adorn The Promontory@Marina Bay, depicting a whimsical, fantasy garden; Flora Magica by Studio KYbra, on the façade of the 32-storey Maybank Tower and I C U Standt:punkt by German artist Ingo K Bracke, which will transform the Seating Gallery at The Float@Marina Bay into an artist’s canvas bathed in light art projections. Another not to be missed is the Digital Origami Tigers by Germany’s Chris Bosse which has been travelling with the World Wildlife Fund as part of the Year of the Tiger campaign.
Among several interactive installations is a community-based artwork, The Living! This project by Singapore’s Sun Yu Li, Kenny Eng and Allan Lim is a sculpture created from recycled paper cups which is expected to grow in size throughout the Festival, as the community is invited to contribute their cups. Another artwork from Singapore, Positive Attracts by Edwin Cheong, blushes with rainbow colours when someone is within proximity.
