Universal Studios Singapore officially opened at the weekend to great fanfare. Despite being open to the public since January 2010, Southeast Asia’s favourite theme park celebrated its official opening on Saturday, with a glamorous Hollywood gala dinner party for 1,600 invited guests and a grand procession for the general public.
Several stars from both the East and West turned up to help celebrate the opening of the movie-themed theme park, including international action star Jet Li, international screen icon Maggie Cheung and everyone’s favourite American Idol judge, Paula Abdul.
Universal Studios Singapore has welcomed over 15 million visitors since it opened last year, and is one of Singapore’s top tourist attractions. The 49 hectare park features seven themed zones each with rides based on Universal Studios movies. Popular rides include the world’s first Madagascar-themed ride, the river boat ride Madagascar: A Crate Adventure, water adventure Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure, the cinematic Shrek 4-D Adventure and rollercoaster rides Revenge of the Mummy and Battlestar Galactica.
