This year’s Mid-Autumn Festival falls on September 12, and one of the best places to catch a glimpse of the festivities is at one of Taipei’s temples. During the annual festival, families gather for barbeque, snack on mooncakes and pomelos, and visit the local temple to leave offerings for a prosperous new year and a bountiful harvest.

Must-Do List for Mid-Autumn Festival

  • Head out to the streets to eat some Chinese BBQ
  • Sample some mooncakes to find your favorites
  • Try your hand at mooncake gambling, a dice game played throughout the city to win prizes
  • Watch the spontaneous fireworks displays in Taipei, or head out of the city to catch a view of the full moon
