Are you the spunky travel enthusiast that longs for art galleries even on vacation? Do you secretly crave a modern approach to anything traditional? Is thinking outside the box your motto? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you’re traveling to the right place. Downtown St. Petersburg is a unique city for the soul who embraces creativity.
Here are a few places you must venture to during your stay – and trust me, they’re nothing but ordinary.
Art Pool, boutique.html, takes a modern approach to the traditional art gallery/studio form by bringing a plethora of arts together. Some of the artwork found here are shocking, daring and a little unorthodox – many are even found walking around the studio wearing the artwork on their naked flesh.
Modern artworks displayed at Art Pool are made from recycled objects, material or unconventional finds of mixed pieces. But, unlike the unique modern art forms found downtown, shockingly fancy vintage items can be found here as well at the Vintage Boutique connected to the gallery.
Each month the theme at Art Pool changes, often featuring bands, DJ’s, catering and more.
TRA’shion Fashion is back for round III at the Art Pool – the wildest and most extreme fashion show ever! Gallery art party, artist/designer market, music and fashion party is scheduled for Saturday, July 17th from 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. The show will host the biggest and best recycled fashion show to date.
Another hot museum to check out is the Salvador Dali Museum. This museum shows the superb excellence of a creative artist, one who was not limited to a particular style or media. The body of his work, from early impressionist paintings through his surreal works, reveals an artist that is ahead of his time and always evolving.
Dali set the standard for the art of the twentieth century – leaving his museum a masterpiece and a stop you do not want to miss.
If you’re interested in learning more about Dali, check out Dali and Beyond Film Series: Edward James Builder of Dreams, Thursday, June 17th at 6:00 p.m. This film will take you on an extraordinary journey into the world of Surrealists, as the life and the accomplishments of Dali patron, surrealist collector, poet and architect Edward James.
