Romantic Things To Do in Budapest

Being labelled the Pearl of the Danube, Budapest ought to have a romantic side, and it does! The grand buildings from the Dual Monarchy in Pest, the baroque buildings of Buda lined by cobble stoned streets and the view from the Castle and Gellért Hill are enchanting. Antique cafés with their cosy atmosphere fit the mood perfectly.

As if reborn after sun-set, the city shows a completely new face. The monumental buildings of the inner city are illuminated creating a magical atmosphere: it's the Buda hills, Danube and imposing architectural masterpieces bathed in warm orange light as far as the eye can see.

Our top pick is the Embankment, as a stroll alongside the Danube at dusk is the perfect way to get a taste for romantic Budapest. From here, the Liberty Statue decorating the top of Gellért Hill and the Royal Palace dominating the Castle Hill are perfectly visible. The restaurant ships and terraced cafes lining the embankment will make one fall in love with the city instantly.

Can it get any more romantic than cruising along the river whilst enjoying the view on either side, wandering about a labyrinth in the dark with just an oil lantern or bathing in the hot thermal water of the most beautiful Secessionist style bath house of the city?

The last five romantic attractions are all located in the Castle District – no wonder. The cute little baroque buildings, cobble stone streets plus majestic architectural masterpieces like the Fishermen's Bastion and Matthias Fountain make a lovely setting for romantic strolls.
